Difficulties

GM’s Cruise had faced several difficult situations in the end of 2023. Cruise LLC is an American self-driving car company headquartered in San Francisco, California. Cruise tests and develops autonomous car technology. The company is a largely autonomous subsidiary of General Motors.

On October 2nd 2023, a pedestrian was hit by another vehicle and thrown into the path of a self-driving Cruise vehicle. As a result, he or she was dragged for 20 feet. California suspended the testing permit and shortly after that Cruise halted all U.S. testing operations. In addition, Cruise fired nine executives. In December, 2023, the US technology company decided to dismiss 900 of its 3,800 employees. They are primarily in commercial operations and related corporate functions.

It means that there was several negative news related to GM’s Cruise, which is one of the frontrunners in the autonomous driving technology. Therefore, does it mean that autonomous driving is feasible and available in the world? Probably, more people will be skeptical of this new technology.
