OPPO is the world’s leading smart device manufacturers and innovators. In fact, even though the founders established the company in 2004, it has offered products and services more than 50 countries. The Chinese tech giant has clear vision and mission. In 2021, we reported that the company is planning to develop own chips for its high-end smartphones.

Since 2018, the trade war between the US and China was happened and has continued until now. After that, Huawei, the Chinese telecom giant, has reduced the sales of its smartphones. As a result, the Chinese company was forced to sell its youth brand, HONOR. At the time, the number of smartphone shipments as HONOR brand was more than 70 million. In addition, Huawei sold more than 200 million smartphones in 2018. Therefore, the trade war had huge impact on Huawei as a smartphone manufacturer.

On the other hand, it would affect other companies positively. In a simple assumption, other smartphone makers could increase the number of its sales to gain Huawei’s market share. At the time, Huawei, Samsung and Apple were top 3 companies to sell their smartphones most. Now, Xiaomi replaces Huawei’s position. Also, OPPO can increase the sales of its smartphones. OPPO also understands the importance of sourcing components of its smartphones by itself from the trade war. If the company relies on components from other regions a lot, it can be risk. That is why the company was planning to develop its own chips for its high-end smartphones.
