Doubles Amazon’s workers in Spain

According to Reuters, Amazon will increase its employees in Spain. The number will be more than double to 25,000 by 2025 from 12,000 in 2020. In addition, the US tech giant will raise the number of its logistics centers in the country. This number will be 40 by the end of this year from 31 now. Furthermore, the company will train 50,000 small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs to sell their products online by the end of 2025.

Users’ point of view

From users’ point of view, ecommerce is getting popular and important in Spain. Of course, the pandemic has accelerated this trend. Spain was one of the worst hit countries in the world in the spring of 2020. As a result, the country imposed on the severest restriction to prevent the spread of the virus. For example, our researcher’s family went out for the closest supermarket to buy essential products once or twice in the weeks. It means that they stayed at home all day long at least five days in the weeks. Can you believe that?

However, this measure was essential at that time and it worked. Therefore, more people must use ecommerce to obtain essential products, food and others. In this case, what are important for users? If we can buy the same product by almost same price through each ecommerce platform, user experience (UX) is critical. UX can be relating to the speed of delivery, the design of websites, payments, customer service and others.

In this sense, the number of employees and logistic centers are important. This is because the more logistic centers are, the more employees are needed. In addition, it will be able to improve the speed of delivery and customer service. In other words, the announcement from Amazon in Spain means that demand of ecommerce soars up.

Companies’ point of view

Amazon can offer the place where users and retailers can meet each other. Of course, it does not mean they see in person. On one hand, users can access tons of products through Amazon platform. On the other hand, retailers can sell their products to consumers in several countries in the same platform. Thus, the number both users and retailers is one of key success factors (KSF) in the platform.

However, Amazon platform can offer so many functions to retailers. In fact, many companies are using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). However, they cannot understand all functions in the service, to be honest. If small companies and entrepreneurs feel that they cannot make use of Amazon platform, what will happen in the next? Probably, they will give up using it and try to find other way like to create their own EC site. It means that this result does harm for KSF.

That is why Amazon wants to train 50,000 small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs to sell their products online by the end of 2025. In addition, when more people use ecommerce, what are other important issues? One of them is to increase delivery and it causes the increase of greenhouse gases emission, too. The US tech giant also tries to realize carbon neutrality by 2040. Thus, we can expect the new initiatives relating to carbon neutrality in Spain as well.
