Restructuring

Several media reported that Ford was planning to reduce its workforce in Europe. There are about 14 thousand workers in Ford’s factory in Cologne. The American company intends to cut about 3,200 jobs including the factory, so it means that about 20% of its workforce will be cut. The company is accelerating its electrification and we have already reported its initiatives.

Thus, this decision is part of the initiatives and tells a clear message to us. Ford is focusing on Electric Vehicles. The company has already announced that half of its total sales will be EVs in 2030. In addition, the US automotive giant plans all of its sales in Europe will be EVs in 2030 as well.

The decision is good, so the next question is how to execute it. Ford made a decision to split EVs and legacy autos into separate units. As a result, the company can invest in electric vehicles more and faster. This is one of its implementations. We feel that this restructuring in Europe is a good initiative, too.
