Several media reported that the relationship between Amazon and Rivian seems to be changing. Amazon is one of the largest companies all over the world in terms of its sales revenue and market capitalization. The company is focusing on e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. It is one of the Big Five American information technology companies, alongside Alphabet (Google), Apple, Meta (Facebook), and Microsoft.
On the other hand, Rivian is an American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and automotive technology company founded in 2009. The company is building an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) and pickup truck on a skateboard platform. It realized the biggest Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2021.
Amazon and Rivian made an exclusive partnership that the American EV company deliver its EVs to the American technology giant. However, it seemed that Rivian wanted to terminate this exclusive partnership. This was because an order from Amazon in 2023 was the bottom line of the deal. Of course, there are several reasons why Amazon cannot order an amount that would satisfy Rivian. One of them is rapid changing external environments.
