Reports by IEA

International Energy Agency (IEA) reported Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) sales in 2021. The numbers are amazing. First of all, EV and PHV sales in 2021 is more than double those in 2020. The number is 6,571,649 and it means that the amount reached almost 6.6 million.

More specifically, EV sales in 2021 is 4,651,974 and this amount is increasing by 130.8% compared to 2020. In addition, PHV sales in 2021 is 1,920,575 and this number is increasing by 96.4% compared to 2020.

China, Europe and the US are the most important EV markets. EV and PHV sales in China in 2021 are about 3.3 million and this number is almost three times as many as that in 2020. Also, it means that the sales in China accounts for about half of sales across the globe. In this sense, how to sell EVs and PHVs in China is very important for automotive manufacturers.

The increase of EV (& PHV) sales is continuing in 2022. In the first quarter of 2022, about 2 million EVs and PHVs are sold in the world. It suggests that total sales in 2022 will be more than 8 million. Of course, there are several uncertainties including the rise of their cost. However, we think that this trend will never stop.
