We believe that 2020 is the year to raise our awareness on climate change. One of the reasons why we think so is that many people in the world were experiencing without economic activities. More specifically, in the spring of 2020, the virus was spreading around across the globe. Also, we did not know how to cope with it at the time. As a result, many national governments decided to restrict our movements. Our economic activities were reduced tremendously.
It means that we could reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) without our intention. In fact, in 2017, 27 % of total EU-28 greenhouse gas emissions came from the transport sector. Of course, this data is a little bit old, but we have not improved the situation dramatically. Therefore, the transport sector is one of the crucial sectors to reduce the amount of GHGs.
That is why we must think of how to spread e-mobility. Of course, some people think that e-mobility is still not eco-friendly, but many countries and cities decided to increase e-mobility each area. One of the important issues relating to the spread of e-mobility is to increase the number of charging infrastructure and smart grids.
Energy companies will play an important role to increase them. We can see the example of Enel, which is an Italian multinational manufacturer and distributor of electricity and gas. Enel originally stood for Ente nazionale per l’energia elettrica (National Electricity Board) and was first established as a public body at the end of 1962. After that, the company was transformed into a limited company in 1992.
