Our research representative attended both New York International Auto Show in 2022 and 2023. The main difference of two events is the presence of Toyota’s bZ4X. bZ4X is a battery electric compact crossover SUV manufactured by Toyota. Worldwide sales of the bZ4X commenced in mid-2022, and sold since the US in the spring of 2022. However, Toyota announced a recall involving a flaw with the wheel hub bolts that could cause the wheels to detach from the car in June 2022.
In the New York International Auto Show 2022, bZ4X was one of the hottest topics both of the event and Toyota. In fact, there were many visitors who tried to ride it in the outdoor exhibit of the event. However, as we see above, Toyota’s battery electric vehicle is facing the problem of its recall. Also, we feel that the vehicle does not exceed our expectation. As a result, we could try to ride it easier in New York International Auto Show 2023 than 2022.
Of course, we do not want to say whether Toyota is good or not. However, there were few visitors around bZ4X in 2023. We can say that visitors did not pay attention to it. We can feel that this less presence of bZ4X means Toyota’s hardship to increase the sales of its electric vehicles.
