Results in 2021

According to its Investor Relations, Tesla, an American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, shared its results in 2021. In the fourth quarter, the company achieved production of more than 305,000 vehicles. What’s more, it delivered over 308,000 vehicles. As a result, Tesla delivered over 936,000 vehicles as a whole in 2021.

In fact, the US company admitted that 2021 was a breakthrough year for it in the press release. Thanks to its strong performance, Tesla verified the viability and profitability of electric vehicles. More specifically, deliveries were up 87% in 2021 and Tesla achieved the highest quarterly operating margin among all volume OEMs*. It means that EVs can be more profitable than combustion engine vehicles.

Tesla achieved strong financial performance as well. It generated $5.5B of GAAP net income and $5.0B of free cash flow in 2021. Also, the company spent $6.5B to build out new factories and on other capital expenditures. The company said that 2021 was just at the very early stages of its journey.
