Prevention is better than cure

In the other article, we argue with the fact that Apple Watch can be the essential products for our health. In this article, we cover the sensor and artificial intelligence help us improve our life and health. Both Apple and BOSCH products are based on the proverb, “prevention is better than cure”. There are several reasons why the idea is so good.

First, we are living in the aged society so that our healthy lifespan becomes more important than before. For example, younger generations in Japan might have to work until 70 years old so as to support Japanese welfare system and to receive pensions. If we can prevent our possible illnesses, it reduce costs and risks to offend our health.

Second, from the companies’ perspective, the prevention segment in healthcare industry has huge potential customers. In other words, if the companies focus on people who have some health problems, healthy people are not their customers. On the other hand, if the companies help people keep their health, target customers are possibly almost everyone all over the world. Both Apple and Bosch are huge company so that potential of the market is really critical for them.

Third, gathering our personal data has more opportunities to provide other services. For instance, if the companies offer a service to monitor our health regularly and to provide suggestions, they might be able to earn money constantly through subscription model. As a result, manufacturers can sell not only hardware but also software.
