We have already reported that the Volkswagen (VW) is planning to build its gigafactory in Sagunto, Spai. In the first quarter of 2023, there is the news about the progression of the battery factory.
The battery manufacturer PowerCo opened an office in the center of Valencia, Spain. PowerCo is the subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, founded in July 2022. In the beginning of 2023, the company closed the acquisition of the land where it plans to establish the group’s second gigafactory in Europe.
The battery factory will be located in the Parc Sagunto II industrial estate in Sagunto. It will be 25 kilometers from the capital of Turia. The factory has an area of 130 hectares, which could be expanded with adjacent land to reach the planned 200 hectares in the future. The future Spanish cell factory is expected to be connected to the group’s gigafactory network in 2026. Also, the factory will come into operation in the same year.
