AR VR headsets

Our research correspondent has attended both CES and MWC Barcelona in 2023. One of the major differences between two events is the existence of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) headsets.

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where technology adds digital elements to a live view. The camera on a smartphone is one example of technologies to make AR feasible.

Virtual reality (VR) refers to a computer-generated simulation where a person can interact within an artificial three-dimensional environment. VR uses electronic devices, such as special goggles with a screen or gloves fitted with sensors. In this simulated artificial environment, users are able to have a realistic-feeling experience.

There were more exhibition of AR and VR headsets in CES 2023 than MWC Barcelona 2023. What’s more, we can see similar trend between MWC Barcelona 2019 and 2023. According to a report, the global shipments of AR and VR headsets was decreasing in 2022. We feel that this struggle in the market reflects the difference between these events.
