Acquisition by the New York Times

According to BBC, the New York Times (NYT) has purchased the popular word game Worldle. The amount of the deal is not disclosed, but it would be a seven-figure sum. A software engineer, Josh Wardle, created the free and simple game in the last October. Even though the game is relatively new, it has millions of players already.

The game challenges players to find a five-letter word in six guesses. A new puzzle is published every day and players can post how quickly they solved the colorful grid on social media. However, the way does not spoil the answer for those still playing. This is one of the reasons why the game captures the imagination of tons of users. The New York Times stated the game would initially remain free to play.
